Claire is the youngest within a family of four daughters. Growing up in rural Tarlac in the Philippines, Claire’s first thoughts of what she wanted to be when she grew up was to become a teacher as they were great role models in her local community. As her sisters grew older and embarked on their studies, each of them ended up pursuing a career in health. Claire’s journey followed in a different direction, her favourite subject of maths prompted her to follow in the footsteps of her mother to study to become an accountant.
Upon finishing her Accounting degree, Claire was based in Manilla and started her career practicing accounting for a car dealership producing their financial statements. It was a great role to sink her teeth into and start to apply the theory she learnt at Uni and turn it into practice. This role was followed by an accounting job in a publicly listed shipping business where she worked across the full accounting process, preparation and presentations of financial statements and reporting.
Working in a larger publicly listed business was a great opportunity for Claire. It was a dream job to further challenge herself working for a bigger business with more cogs to their wheel. The business had shipping lines and transported cargo to all over the world. It was an exciting opportunity for Claire to learn and be mentored by senior team members about the various specialties within the field of accounting. Let alone also diving into the in’s and out’s of the various reporting requirements there are of a publicly owned business that liaises with government agencies.
Before too long, her sisters would return back to Tarlac and Claire followed suit following her siblings/housemates back to her hometown landing an accounting role with Martin & Martin based out of our Tarlac, Philippines office. Claire’s easy going friendly attitude, her love of learning and being meticulous with her attention to detail and reporting is a great fit for our team – as she works through the interesting work of our clients in public practice (whilst also doing her Sisters’ tax returns on the side).
