Jerico from our Philippines team, grew up in Tarlac City, the same city that our Martin & Martin Philippines office is located. As the second oldest child in his family he is considered as the light-hearted one of the four siblings. As a young boy he was drawn to engineering: puzzles, maths and problem-solving games. Whilst he was in senior high school and exploring his option for further study, Jerico discovered accounting. It offered something that gave him great satisfaction: solving complex problems with numbers that have no easy straight forward answers.

Jerico studied accounting at Tarlac State University and started his career as an accountant at a local privately owned real estate and leasing company, where he quickly learned that theory and practice are very different things, especially when it comes to the intricacies of taxation. He joined Martin and Martin Consulting to broaden his horizons across a diverse range of industries and clients. The cultural shift to an Australian consulting practice has been a welcome one: he values the collaborative spirit, the approachability across all levels of the team, and the dry banter.

Quietly, competent, Jerico is currently deepening his knowledge of Australian tax and looking forward to the perspective shift and growth that comes from learning a whole different taxation system. When you’re in his presence, his optimism oozes out from him as his whole face lights up with a great big welcoming smile.

Beyond the desk, Jerico loves to draw. Armed with a greylead pencil and some paper he can conjure magic with his drawing. Back when he was in high school, his pictures caught the attention of other students and he was asked for commissions to draw portraits for friends and classmates. As the interest grew, he set up a social media page and before long his business expanded beyond the network of known friends and family to strangers on social media seeking out his commissions. For each piece he’d dive into the mindful practice of drawing and it would take around two and a half hours to complete. These days he dabbles in drawing and painting for leisure with acrylic landscape painting among his favourite things to do in his spare time to decompress. Though the love of learning new skills means he also enjoys picking up and playing the guitar when he has the opportunity.
